Upon acceptance to the program, each Cadet Recruit must complete a minimum of 40 hours of basic training,a.k.a. Boot Camp. Here recruits will be taught a multitude of subjects ranging from drill and ceremony, team work and self-efficiency to low impact camping, US history and ethics.

What will Cadet Recruits expect in bootcamp?

Cadet Recruits willl be expected to adhere to the Ranger Cadet core values, obligation, and code of conduct from day one.  They will be treated with fairness and equallity, however should expect things might get loud.  This is not to frighten them but so that everyone can hear what is being communicated to them.  Upon completion of bootcamp recruits must understand and demonstrate the following:

- Self Discipline
- Basic Close Order Drill /Ceremony

Absolutely not! We only accept youth that are committed to doing the right thing at all times. Integrity and honesty are our most important principles and we instill this into Cadets from day one. Semper Pius (Always Honest).

Are Cadets being groomed for the military?

The short answer:No! While we do teach respect and honor to those who have served we do not gear children for the military. In fact the Ranger Cadets is not endorsed nor sponsored by any form of the government. The Cadets are however, given specific information about each service. College education is highly stressed to Cadets, If a Cadet chooses to enlist or seek a commission in the service the Ranger Cadets Officers will assist the Cadet to make the best decision.

Where did the Ranger Cadets start?

The Ranger Cadets began in Bangor, Maine under the direction of Jerry Johnson. The company (unit) was reassigned to a new Company Commander in 2008.

How will Cadet earn promotions?

Cadets earn promotions upon meeting several conditions. Each promotion requires the cadet to achieve a certain score on a written exam; obtain satisfactory observations in: physical conditioning and dependability; recieve appropriate reports from home, school, and drill; in addition, each cadet is required to complete set amount of community and unit service to earn promotions. As the promotions become more senior, the cadet is expected to exercise more responsibility.

My Cadet wants to join the Military after high school, will they earn meritorious promotion for being a Cadet?

At this time the Ranger Cadets does not guarantee that Cadets will promotions above their peers. They will however, have training and knowledge that will be taught in military bootcamp, that will distinguish them above their peers  This is something that the national staff is attempting to pass to congress.

How can adults be involved in Ranger Cadets?

We offer staff officer positions to adults over 18 that are interested in the program. Staff officer candidates must submit to a background and character check. Once that is completed and returned with no history, then you must complete a 20 hours Officer Candidate School (2, 10 hour days) of training.  During this course you will learn how to handle Cadets in a command and learning envirornment.  Some specific things that you will take from this course are:

     - and so much more!!!

What is the CHIP/Mini CHIP Squad?

The Cadets Held In Processing Squad is a new program that we are beginning this year (2009).  There is the regular CHIPs (8 year olds and up awaiting bootcamp) and the Mini CHIPs (4-7 year olds).  This is an introductory unit that participates with the unit on field outings, fundraisers, community service events, and other general meetings.  CHIPs do not attend bootcamp, unless they are old enough (then they'll be Ranger Cadets).  Mini CHIPs are not  disiplined with IT (push up, running, etc.).  Mini CHIPs are not "yelled" at.  Mini CHIPs grow at their own pace.  Since they do not go to bootcamp the only fee for Mini CHIPs is $40.  This $40 will be subtracted from the cost to send that CHIP to bootcamp when that time comes.

Does it cost anything for recruits to join the Ranger Cadets

Yes. At this time the cost of lifetime membership is $125.00. This fee covers insurance, basic training materials: guide books, maps, patches, rank insignias, nametags, (tapes), t-shirt and PT cover. At this time the cost does not include the cost of the field uniform and boots that recruits and Cadets are required to have. If you need assistance with purchasing these items please see the commanding officer.
